WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item upgrade is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with the help of button, which displays a preview of the item upgrades at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current item upgrades level. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an Item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations offer item upgrader kit upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. Icewind Dale does not have an Best item upgrade upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will cost less even in the event that they belong to a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path.
