Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication that helps to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and the growing demand for ADHD medications worldwide.

Our service provides private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This includes a thorough medical history, as well as an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination, you will be advised that medication may be beneficial for your situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, by video link or over the phone). Your physician will explain to you the various options for medication and, if you decide to begin taking medication, we will suggest titrating the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This is a process which could take a few weeks, and involves adjusting your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to have to titrate up to three different medications before you find the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is important that parents take part in the titration process and be on the lookout for their child's behavior so they can inform doctors whether the medication is helping or causing adverse reactions.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS treatment, your medication will be issued with a private prescription which you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment usually takes place on zoom video call however in some instances it may be possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options we have and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dosage and any adverse effects you might be experiencing. The cost of these titration adhd medication appointments is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any medication costs.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues that you might be experiencing. ADHD can be a genetic condition, so it's important to assess your family background to determine if you are at a higher risk of developing this disorder.

It is crucial to be honest and transparent with your doctor during this assessment, as the information they gather will be used to determine if your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step in the process, since a failure to do so could result in an incorrect diagnosis, and thus an incorrect prescribing of medication.

If you decide to seek treatment for ADHD we'll schedule an appointment for a follow-up visit with a psychiatrist who is specialized in this field. If you'd like to start treatment right away you can start treatment at the time of diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and your options.

If you aren't sure what is titration in adhd your preference is, we suggest that you talk with your GP prior to booking your private examination as some providers have different policies about whether they require a GP referral letter or not. We also advise that you check whether your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement', which means that once discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

You will be required to attend an annual review and a regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

Some people might be satisfied with their treatment and do not need to discuss their titration in more detail. If you're looking to discuss your titration or treatment plan more thoroughly it is possible that you will be referred back to the private clinic that performed your initial evaluation. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be part of their consultation fee and they will receive their medication through private prescription (see Consultation fees above). It could cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
