We asked Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right one. They weighed the capacity of storage and layout, energy efficiency, and other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like the name suggests, the GE Profile series is targeted at consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technology in their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all from a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive, so I expected better.

Apart from that minor flaw the fridge is a fantastic choice. It comes with a huge freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Furthermore, it holds a fair amount of frozen food as compared to similar models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment is 18.5 cubic feet, which is typical for a french door fridge integrated-door fridge at this price. It has a decent sized refrigerator with an ice maker in the left door. However it's not the biggest one I've seen.

You can alter the shelving in both compartments to create customized storage layout for the items you need to keep. The GE PYE22PYNFS's design for the interior is good-looking, too. Its LED lighting is a nice feature and the storage bins come with an additional shelf that folds up beneath itself so that you can store tall items. The drawers are equipped with temperature controls, so you can set them to Beverage, Meat or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to shut and open however I found the textured plastic coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the full suite of features you'd expect from a fridge at this price with Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in world, and offers many options for customizing. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked, when the freezer or fridge must be defrosted and when the filter requires a change.

It would be nice to have GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill the option that is that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allows users to select how many cups they want to dispense. It does offer an indicator on the display of the fridge to show how much water you have left, but it's not as helpful as Precise fill.

The ice maker is one of the most efficient we've ever tested, and it produces a pyramid-shaped form of ice with a low use of water. This fridge is perfect for a single family or a kitchenette that wants an attractive design and top of the line food preservation.

This refrigerator was rated as the best in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained constant at just above 0°F and never fluctuated by more than a fraction, this is crucial to prevent the risk of a freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the fridge also did well. It reached the initial temperature set within a matter of hours, and maintained the temperature throughout our tests.

Bosch is a household name for its top-quality appliances. It's therefore no surprise that Bosch's counter depth fridge Bosch counter depth fridge can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's Home Connect. This app allows you to monitor and manage your fridge remotely using your tablet or smartphone. The fridge is a bit expensive, but it comes with top-quality features and functions for the cost.

While the fridge is an amazing piece of equipment, it's important to know the limitations. You might need to be inventive with tall items since the fridge is limited in shelf space. The shelves are not resistant to spills and are easily damaged or stained by sharp objects. It's simple to remove the trays from the fridge however, you must clean them frequently to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage space into a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge features a standard French-door layout with gallon-sized door bins at each door as well as two rows of shelves that capture spills and a set more spacious drawers. The top shelf to the right can be folded to provide more space for tall items. There's also a full-width storage drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

The doors pose a problem with this fridge. The handles with a sunken design allow smaller people to open them from the bottom. However taller people struggle to close them without slamming. It would have been more effective if they had handles mounted on the front.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent option for those looking to blend the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with an efficient design. It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also a little cheaper than the best counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which helps make it an attractive option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire french door fridge reddit door refrigerator is a good option when you're looking for a French door fridge that won't break the budget. It's a basic fridge that might not be as eye-catching like some of its competitors however it has enough features to make it a an excellent option. Its main feature is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large water and ice maker dispenser.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. The drawer allows you to divert some of the fridge's cooling power directly to this area, meaning you can keep food items that need extra attention. This feature is adjustable using a slider located outside the drawer. You can also use this to set a general cooling setting for the entire fridge though I've found that adjusting the generic settings tends to be more effective than specific ones.

During my tests, I found that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in different parts of the fridge. Temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary very far from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a solid performance, but it does not quite make it to the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be connected with a smart thermostat in order to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made from grey-bodied stainless that has a "smudge resistant" finish. It wards off streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tested.
