We consulted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right one. They weighed the capacity of storage, layout and energy efficiency, among other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like the name suggests, GE's Profile series is targeted at the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge technology in their kitchen. This fridge has them all from the Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door to a smart dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator costs an extra amount, I'd like to see better.

Other than that the fridge is a great option. It features a large freezer compartment that is not common for counter-depth French-door fridges. It also holds plenty of frozen food compared to other models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is the standard for a fridge with a French door at this price. It comes with a decent size freezer in the left side. But, it's not the largest one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in each compartment to create a customized storage layout for what you want to store. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS also looks attractive. The LED lighting is an appealing accent. The in-door storage bins include a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall items. The drawers are equipped with temperature controls, so you can set them for Beverage, Meat, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, although I found their plastic textured coatings a bit difficult on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the full suite of features you'd expect from a refrigerator at this price with Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in world, and it has numerous options for customization. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked as well as when the fridge or freezer must be defrosted and when the filter needs to be changed.

It is nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill which is an option that is available in other GE refrigerators that allows you to choose how many cups of water you'd like to disperse at once. It does offer an indicator on the fridge display to display how much water have left, but it's not as helpful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth french door fridge with ice maker no plumbing Door Refrigerator

The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is an impressive product. It's designed to look like it's a seamless component in your kitchen. The non plumbed fridge french door uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer, and two compressors for preserving food items. The ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and makes the shape of a pyramid using only water. This fridge is perfect for a single household or a kitchenette that wants an attractive design and top of the line food preservation.

This fridge was rated as the top in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained constant at just above 0°F and never fluctuated more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to avoid the risk of a freezer burn. The fridge's fridge section also performed well, reaching the desired temperature for initial set within an hour and maintaining that temperature steady over the course of our tests.

Bosch has a reputation for premium appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance that has the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app allows you to monitor and control your refrigerator remotely on your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is expensive, but it comes with excellent features and functionality for the price.

It's important to understand the limitations of your fridge. It has a limited shelf space, which means you'll require some creativity when storing tall objects. The shelves are not resistant to spills and are easily damaged or stained by sharp items. The trays can be easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they should be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a great counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage in an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge features an ordinary French-door design with gallon-sized door bins at each door as well as two rows of spill-capture shelves and a set sleeker drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to give taller items more room. There's also a full-width drawer for products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

One of the great things about this refrigerator is that the ice maker is inside the freezer, which makes it easy to move ice into the fridge for use when required. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers that can help you to organize the place of items. It has a large bin for storing frozen food and a separate one for ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. It allows you to control the fridge's temperature, lighting, and more using your smartphone. It's a great way to control and monitor your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it does not necessarily improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took a bit longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than other refrigerators we test. This could be due to its greater capacity.

The other issue we have with the doors of this refrigerator. The handles that are sunken let shorter people open them from the bottom. However taller people have a difficult time closing them without slamming. It would have been much better if they had handles mounted on the front.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a excellent choice for those who want to combine the advantages of a French-door refrigerator's aesthetics with an efficient layout. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also less expensive than the best counter-depth refrigerator that has an ice maker, which helps make it a popular choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth french door kenmore fridge Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door refrigerator that won't cost you a fortune and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a solid option. It's a basic fridge which may not be as attractive like some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make a an excellent choice. Its most significant feature, the adjustable temperature drawer helps to keep food like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser as well as a good ice maker that operates quickly.

The "Chill Drawer", which is situated above the two crisper bins, is a great feature. The drawer allows you to divert a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, which means you can keep food items that require extra attention. You can adjust this feature using a slider that's located right outside of the drawer. You can also set the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.

In my tests, the temperatures of the refrigerator stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the fridge. Temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary much from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a good performance, but it doesn't quite make it to the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be connected with a smart thermostat in order to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's outside is made of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It does a great job of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared with shiny stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
