Robots that clean and vacuum offer the convenience of cleaning dry debris and wet messes in one go and without the need to switch between devices. They can also save space when compared to two separate units, particularly in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot should be able to navigate well and have excellent obstacles avoidance. Look for models with docks that let them automatically empty their bins, replenish their water tanks and wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's one of the easiest robots to install that we've tested. Unpacking is easy, and the quick-start guide can get you running in no time with a full dust bag, water tank, and a hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is an incredibly powerful machine that can mop and vacuum well. The mops spin at a high speed and utilize 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to get rid of pet hair, dirt and sticky dried spills. The vacuum cleaner has four power settings, a range of brushes and attachments as well as an intuitive app that lets you select the type of cleaning you'd like to do for each room.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the latest version of the company's top robot vacuum and mop. This year's model has two agitators built into its mopping pad. This enhances the carpet cleaning capabilities of this model. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction capacity that allows it to pull up finer hairs and other debris other robotic cleaners might miss.

This Roborock model, like the other two I tested it has infrared and a reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology to help it get around obstacles like furniture, walls, and other obstacles. However, the S8 Pro Ultra takes things an extra step by having a dual camera that can detect objects and decide whether they are an object that is a wall or a different surface. It then can automatically alter its path and clean around them without skipping a beat.

This is the most expensive of the three models I've examined, but it's also the most loaded with features. Its sleek, angular design is eye catching, and it only has three buttons that are physically accessible. The power button, which resumes the cleaning, a mop button that doubles as a child-lock and a home button to send the robot vacuum reviews to its dock. Lifting the hinged lid reveals 350ml of dust bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank will empty itself and the bin auto-refilling.

The only downside I found with this model was that the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't movable. You can replace the mopping cloth if required, but it's a challenge to remove the mount for washing manually. I've found that any plush carpet that the robot touches will be in contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener mechanism on the mount, and can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart capabilities which include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can set up and manage these through the Roborock app which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app lets you plan cleanings and monitor battery life. You'll need to go through a series of steps to activate voice control on this model. This is a shame considering the performance otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 is an industry-leading robot vacuum and mop with outstanding suction power, advanced mowing capabilities, and innovative features. Its innovative design lets users to tailor and effectively clean while reducing time.

The side brush automatically lowers itself when it spots wet spots, which is a nice touch that helps the X40 keep floors safe from damage caused by excessive back-and-forth movements.

Unlike other robots, which are restricted to a single task, the X40 can vacuum and mop simultaneously. It can be programmed to only mop the hard floors and skip carpeted areas, or vice versa. It can be controlled via the Dreame app or via Alexa, Siri, and Google Home for a seamless voice-controlled operation.

The app is intuitive and user-friendly and the X40's clever features are a breeze to set up. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times, alter suction power and mode, see mapping and floor plans and manage mopping settings. The X40 will also track its progress, and alert you when it's done.

The X40 is easy to keep clean and has many convenient features that make it a great choice for busy families. The docking station will automatically cleans the dustbin and mop pads before refilling them with cleaning solution and fresh water. It also can detect when the mop pad is overflowing and notify you before it overflows, reducing the need for manual maintenance.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a high-end robot that's one of the most expensive on the market, but it packs in many additional features that set it apart. Smart DuoScrub, which is a new feature on its mops, uses two mop heads with high-speed motors to scrub floors more thoroughly. It also has a maximum suction force of 7,000Pa. This is more than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra and Ecovacs Deebots T20 Omni. It can also remove pet hair, dirt particles, and clean up spills and dirty spots.

The mop is also cleaned and dried inside the base station after every use. This is beneficial as it keeps mould and unpleasant odours from building up in the storage. It also makes the mop system more efficient. This is a system we haven't yet seen on other robot vacuums and mop models and it could be a useful method of keeping your home hygienic for longer.

There's a plethora of settings on offer that include the possibility to schedule cleaning appointments and adjust a variety of preferences. These can be set via the app, or via buttons that can be found on the device itself. The app is easy to use and offers a variety of options for customising your cleaning routine. It also offers a number of features that aren't offered on other robots, for instance the Clean Genius Mode, which automatically increases suction when it detects dust particles.

The L20 Ultra is also one of the most elegant robots we've seen on market, with metallic and white design that looks elegant and classy. It's a little heavier than some of the other two-in-one robots in this list, at 4kg - but it's not obscenely heavy, and it is sturdy and well-built. The mopping design is also excellent and the double-rotating mops work well on hard floors and in corners. They can also extend up to 2mm of baseboards due to the MopExtend feature which is a nice touch.
