The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention. It will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as a dirt detector) are positives.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum that mops vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
