Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The stats of an item are enhanced by upgrading it, also referred to as "upping". Each upgrade increment provides a linear increase in any stat.

Players can recycle up to six items at a time to gain a level gauge for each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling an item scales with its rarity and level.

Upgrade components

A level upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can boost the effectiveness of your armor and weapons. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways such as using upgrade components or by increasing the rarity or mark level. Many items can also be reforged in order to increase their value.

Upgradeable items can be found in the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be made by players. To upgrade an item, click it in your inventory and open the Upgrade window. If you don't possess enough of either, the Upgrade button will say Blocked.

The upper-right corner shows the number of upgrade components needed for a particular Best item upgrader. The cost of an upgrade increases with the level of the upgrade and its rarity, but can be reduced through a variety of methods, such as buying upgrades at a merchant or trading them with other players.

Glyphs

This range is the maximum value that a glyph could improve a stat by but not the amount it actually improves the stat by. The value of the glyph is contingent on the tier as well as the quality of the product you are enchanting.

The majority of upgrade components that are slotted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the gear in question, except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use, but it's not been applied to gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel.
