An Aussie man is $150,000 richer after checking an 11-month old lotto ticket in the nick of time.

The Western Australian man had bought the ticket back in January and stuck it to his fridge, where it remained for almost a year.

Lotterywest players have 12 months to claim their prizes, so the man was fortunate to finally bring the winning ticket with him during a routine trip to the chemist.

'I just kept thinking, หวยฮานอย I'll check it next month, and then the next month would come, and I'd think the same thing again,' he said.

'I couldn't believe it when I finally checked - not only did I win, but I claimed my prize just in time.'

He had just a few weeks to claim his Division One $146,943 prize.

The man, in his 30s, has shared the happy news with his family and plans to put the money towards his Mandurah house.

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said the win was a 'great reminder to check your tickets regularly'.

'This player is going to have an extra special Christmas this year.

'What wonderful news, made even sweeter by getting in just five weeks before this ticket was going to expire.

'Just imagine having a winning ticket stuck to your fridge for almost the entire year.'

Players could register tickets to a Lotterywest membership so they could get in contact with winning ticket holders, Ms Wender said.
