In the past, Korea's scientific community has refrained from engaging with creationists, afraid that doing so could increase the credibility of the movement. The silence is no longer a viable option.

The STR has been fighting to eliminate the content on evolution from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. This is only one example of the way in which the development paradigm has evolved.

What is Evolution?

The theory of evolution is a branch of science that explains the evolution of genetic traits over time. The theory is based on fact that living things adapt to their environment, which can cause variations in genes or even complete genomes. These changes could over generations lead to the creation of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It explains how people who have advantages can reproduce faster and longer than those with less favorable traits. This variation in reproduction could be a catalyst to the development and emergence of new species.

The word "evolution" originates from the Latin word meaning unraveling or revealing, however the concept itself has a myriad of meanings since it took form in the sciences and elsewhere. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to evolve into a different species. Etienne Geoffroy St.Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist pupil who invented the term "transmutation" to describe this theory. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, criticized the idea of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.

Evolutionary biologists define evolution more recently as a process through which living things develop characteristics to increase their chances of surviving or conceiving offspring. Over time this genetic variation can cause the emergence of entirely new biological functions or physical traits in the population. This variation in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and is the primary driver behind evolutionary change. Changes that are not genetic, like an increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet, can't be considered evolution because they aren't passed on to future generations.

Creationists make the argument that evolution is controversial, even though it has been proven true by thousands of scientific tests and that it has stood the test of time. They claim that the theory shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have had a few wins in their efforts to eliminate evolution from high school textbooks and have also gotten rid of any references to the evolutionary roots of humans, as well as the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur thought to be the ancestor of birds.

Why is Evolution Important to Humanity?

What is Creationism?

The most popular type of creationist is the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in the exact manner described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is literal, and that the universe and the life on Earth began only recently.

OECs aren't as popular However, their beliefs are as fierce like the YECs. OECs believe the universe and Earth are billions-of-years old and that evolution is a myth.

Both forms of creationism deny the scientific theories that biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life began on Earth. They claim that evolution is not possible because it would require a miracle, and that the scientists who founded modern science shied away from miracles due to fear of losing credibility.

Some creationists are able to accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and 에볼루션 코리아 call their belief "theistic evolution." This is sometimes known as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the original species." The theory suggests that God creates original species and allows them to change over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species similar to the original.

Some academic institutions and scientists, however, are more flexible and permit both evolution and creationism to be included in their curricula.

What is Creationism?

When people think of the concept of creationism most often, they think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their books. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. The STR has scored its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of an bird, 무료 에볼루션 the Archeopteryx. The next goal is to remove portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research and also on human evolution.

STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and members. Its mission is to cut out what it sees as the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of undergraduates studying biology revealed that a majority of them did not believe evolution. The root causes are unclear, but may include religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists in the country.

The KACR has achieved many things through its lectures and seminar events. It publishes a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of these was a textbook on natural science with a creationist stance. It sparked interest among college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught to students today.

On August 6-7 the 7th of August 1993, 에볼루션 코리아 (check out this site) which coincided with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand.
