WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrades by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for Item upgrade trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with higher variance due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item level upgrade upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from item level upgrade upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no Item upgrade upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require various methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will be less expensive, even in the event that they are part of a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few choices. They can make use of Flightstones, which are a common upgrade currency that is accessible to everyone, or crests, which are more specific and consumed during upgrades at specific levels of the item. Using these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
