A robot vacuum is able to keep floors clean enough to reduce the frequency with which you have to manually vacuum. Select a vacuum that is well-trained in navigation, has the ability to clean corners and stairs and also has large bins that will need to be cleaned out every now and then.

There are models that can mop and charge themselves this is an option that is essential for families with children or pets. The top performers in our tests have good obstacles to avoid.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self cleaning vacuum-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ a great option for those who want an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind having to empty their dust bin manually as it gets full.

Both robots excel at picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors and they're excellent in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However, unlike the i7+ and other top rated robot vacuum-rated robots that we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features and therefore it could be stuck on things like socks or power cords, and it may have trouble in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include clearing out any clutter or toys it may come across. It's also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is empty it goes back to its docking station and automatically emptying its debris into the station's external dustbin and content then resumes cleaning the area where it left off. The battery's life span is approximately an hour and a half of constant use. It takes three hours to fully charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it has an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot using voice or via the app.

The i7+ is more efficient and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy the dust bin is self-emptying, which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room and vacuum a specific space. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. We were able, once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of cordless vacs that feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like a sports car. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then releases cleaner air into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adjusted to suit the task. It quickly switches from best floor vacuum robot vac to handheld vacuum and back.

The model also comes with a dock that charges to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments and a clip for a wand. This is a significant improvement over earlier Dysons, that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its limited running time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a standard battery-powered cordless vacuum's running time. This is enough time to sweep the typical home however, it's not enough time to get into every corner. (A second time usually works). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its advantages: It's lighter and agile than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on the latest model of robot. It could pick up most types of debris and sizes in our testing and often went over the same area multiple times to give an efficient clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice feature.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home. However, it lacks the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often will run out of battery before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot cleaner amazon is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 in that it has less parts that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower costs for recurring expenses, is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and is better able to maneuver its own. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also has physical boundaries strips and can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more robust, has a larger motor, and can perform better on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app offers a variety of customization options for your robotic cleaner. This includes mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior customizations docking frequency settings, and more. The app is easy to use and understand similar to other Samsung devices.

In our testing of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86% of it. However, it didn't do particularly well at avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks which was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models we've tested, and this could be a deal breaker for some buyers.

The app lets you access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's cleaning zone. This feature lets you check in on pets or kids when you're away from home. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned for the quick and easy cleaning. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with a self-emptying clean station, which helps keep the robot's bin clear and maximizes suction power.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Unlike other robotic vacuums, that are made for hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard floors. They have a wider cleaning path and a larger dust bin that can hold 2X more debris than other models to keep the cleaning area free of debris for the longest period of time. They also have two side sweepers to clean around corners and edges. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also comes with AutoSense technology, which senses whether it's picking up dirt on surfaces or embedded dirt and automatically adjusts its power level. The vacuum also has an app that allows users to see a virtual map, control functions, and create schedules. Plus, you can monitor the battery's status and then return it to its dock to charge at the push of the button. The app allows you to modify the LEDs on the top of the vacuum so that you can tell where it is focused or if it's stuck.

The app allows you to manually steer the robot in the event of need. For example my living room cleaning robot rug has a darkly-colored border that tends to make it difficult for other robots I've tried. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border without ever registering the high point. And the ability to program weekly cleaning schedules is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
