As with other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot vacuums with mop's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and Best Robot Hoover along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen on other robot vacuum cleaners best vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and automatic vacuum cleaner and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and best robot hoover structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. And you can set up a spot clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
