World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade item you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an indicator of the damage and quality. The item level can also be used to compare items when examining the inventory of a vendor.

On PC, you are able to check the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the item level is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems found in sockets increase the item upgrade's value. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is usually very close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, because the size of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game utilizes them in many ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification which are then boosted by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.

Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges just like the other rerolling methods.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item upgrade level, and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the chance of finding items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or Item Upgrade ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in the early game, because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances, which increase with each new level of item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to increase the Luck of an item, up to 140.

Moreover there are certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This may cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
