World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also increase bonuses like crit chance and PvE damage.

If the weapon's upgrade template is in %, the weapon will gain an additional 3% of the previous damage every time it's upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the level of the Best item upgrade increases.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, weapons and armor to provide them with a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment with a slot for them. The item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be inserted. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a special type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix that alters the name of the equipment with which it is used (for instancethe 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item upgrader kit, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using fewer Upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher tier version of the item will be available at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep improving their equipment even if they're uncertain of how much it will improve after a future reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly, and there is a high risk that the item may be obsolete or even break if it fails; a unsuccessful upgrade could destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also give the player a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade elements which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs buff the power of all nodes in the area around them and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as you can to level 15.

You will often find in the final game that placing Glyphs is the most effective way to upgrade your gear. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component that can be removed without restriction and then replaced again are the most popular. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and re-placed with the aid of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you choose it in your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use and also during Faction Crypt Raids. Leveling

The upgrade system for items allows players to increase the stats of certain items by placing upgraded components in them. This is often referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be leveled to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires a different number of components to reach, and the upgrade costs increase as the item is upgraded.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained from the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or obtained from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields some Technology Points. These points can be used to level up the item, and when enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an item is upgraded by a player, the base Best item upgrade is replaced with a new item of the same kind. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a problem because it can make the item more expensive if you do not need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrades. This will cause the item to be traded for a new one, with the level 1 base, and a totally different set of extra bonuses. This is useful for certain items, however it shouldn't be done regularly, as it can waste many resources.

Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to modify their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides an increase in power if the player repeatedly enters or exits water. The item can be upgraded several times by increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is extremely valuable in PvP. A well-rolled version can be worth as much as 50x the value of its non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to increase the level of their available gear--armor, weapons and trinkets over ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currencies to an item upgrader NPC. The upgrade of armor set pieces will also boost the defense base of the item, and upgrading weapon items will increase the damage base and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

All items can be upgraded up to five times except for hero equipment, which can be upgraded eight times. Every time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it is at risk of failing. The rate of failure increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures can result in the item returning to its original state which means that the player has to spend additional resources than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item is not able to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally the item will be deducted any gained bonuses such as crit chance and attack damage, and all additional effects associated with the effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or the speed of reloading). However, the player can still continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded receives a crit chance boost it will be applied before any damage from attacks increases. Slots is a brand new attribute that has been added to item definitions. The value is calculated each time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are determined by its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a typical equipment item could have five upgrades at a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items will come with the lowest cost for each upgrade.

Premium items might require different upgrades than regular gear. For instance they may require less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons.
